History

Although our company officially began in January of 2003, the partners at Robertson Insurance Group LLC collectively have more than 120 years of experience in the insurance business. In 1969, after graduating from Duke University (1966) and having just served two years in the United States Army with a one-year tour of duty in Vietnam, Jim Robertson began his insurance career with a local independent agency in Bethlehem.  In 1971, Jim formed his own insurance firm with a partner and was primarily responsible for the growth of that firm during his tenure there.  In 1977, Jim opened Robertson Insurance Services Inc. and through the addition of some minor partners and a number of agency acquisitions, grew the agency to become one of the largest in the Lehigh Valley area.

In 1991, Cynthia Youngblut Haelig joined the firm as an account executive. Since her arrival Cindy has been an integral part of the organization and has been largely responsible for much of the growth of the company. In 1997, Jim merged the company with Scott Welsh’s agency to form Robertson/Welch Insurance Services, Inc. In a very short time, the agency grew dramatically.  In 2000, Robertson/Welsh was purchased by Brown & Brown Insurance, the sixth largest insurance agency in the United States.  Although the agency did very well, Jim felt that he could not serve his clients with the same level of personal attention that he had previously offered.  Therefore, in January of 2003 Robertson Insurance Group was founded.

Cindy and Jim began to re-establish the agency as one of the premier insurance firms in the Lehigh Valley area.  In June of 2003, Robertson Insurance Group merged with Jamie Hunsicker and the Hunsicker Agency.  Jamie brought more than 30 years of insurance experience with him and has been instrumental in growing the firm substantially over the last six years.  Through additional acquisitions and mergers (Patton in 2004, Englert in 2005, Samer in 2006, and Myers in 2008) the agency has grown to handle more than 16,000 policies and has a proven track record for providing innovative, custom-tailored insurance programs for its clients.

Since that time, Bill Haelig, a former sales executive with Motorist Mutual Insurance Company and State Auto Insurance Company, joined the firm in 2005 and has been an invaluable asset to the firm.  His expertise in the commercial lines field has been an important addition to the team.
